Live Oak School

A unique identity as a metaphor for how learning actually happens.

A core tenet of progressive philosophy is the concept of constructivism: learners building new knowledge on top of existing knowledge. The additive method of collage lends itself as a visual metaphor for how learning happens at Live Oak School.

Further, a truly diverse school in the heart of San Francisco is always going to be beautiful in its complexity. The richness of collage speaks to how each person—student, faculty, parents, admin, alumni—adds their unique identity to the beautiful tapestry that is the Live Oak community.

The world needs perspective.

By giving students what they need, Live Oak School gives the world what it needs. The world needs passionate, confident, powerful young people because when they are their true, authentic selves, they make life better for those around them. People who believe in creating pathways to diverse, boundless futures necessarily believe in education centered on practicing justice, making positive change, and celebrating individual identities while elevating the collective.

“Layers reflect that the world we live in is full of many contexts and perspectives, and that’s what we’re teaching the kids—there are a myriad of ways to solve a math problem, many ways to think about an idea.”
